MKs, diplomats, academics and activists celebrate 101st anniversary of San Remo Conference

Special online event celebrated 101st anniversary of conference which established mandate for Jewish national home in the Land of Israel.

A special online event was held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 marking the 101st anniversary of the San Remo Conference, where the post-WWI Allied powers tasked Great Britain with establishing a national home for the Jewish People in the Land of Israel.

From April 19 to 26, 1920, representatives from Britain, France, Italy and Japan, along with the United States as an observer, met in San Remo, Italy, to determine the fate of territories in the Middle East that were controlled by the defeated Ottoman Empire.

On April 25, the Allied powers passed the San Remo Resolution and created the Mandate for Palestine, which adopted the Balfour Declaration and charged Britain with establishing a Jewish state in Palestine, which then consisted of modern-day Jordan and Israel. The mandate was officially ratified two years later by the League of Nations.

To mark the 101st anniversary of the historic event, the pro-Israel advocacy groups Im Tirtzu, Canadians for Israel’s Legal Rights and the Zionist Organization of America, along with 30 other cosponsors, organized an event featuring talks and greetings from leading Jewish figures. The event was attended by 500 people via Zoom.

The speakers included former MK and IDF Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, Israeli Consul General in Toronto Galit Baram, international law experts Professor Eugene Kontorovich and Professor Avi Bell, Im Tirtzu Board Chairman Douglas Altabef, and ZOA president Morton Klein.

Speaker of the Knesset Yariv Levin, former Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, and MK Simcha Rothman also sent special greetings for the event.

“It is essential to speak about our past in order to secure our future,” said Ambassador Danny Danon. “It is important to speak about the San Remo Conference, which codified our international rights to the Land of Israel.”

Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin congratulated the organizers of the conference: “I have no doubt that thanks to your work, the Jewish People in Israel and around the world will have a better understanding of the historic significance of the conference and its implications today.”

Israeli Consul General in Toronto Galit Baram said that “the importance of the conference lies in the fact that it bridges the gap between general statements of support, sympathy and the needs of the Jewish people in general, and between the adoption of concrete legal steps. This is the fundamental difference.”

Baram added: “The State of Israel and the education system have a responsibility, as well as parents and educators, to provide information about the San Remo Conference and the fundamental role it plays in the history of Zionism and the history of the State of Israel.”

Former MK and IDF Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, who submitted a bill in the previous Knesset calling to establish a national holiday commemorating the San Remo Conference, said: “The San Remo Conference is maybe the most unknown conference in Israel. But because it’s so meaningful to the Zionist movement and because it was a point of no return for the rebuilding of the Jewish state, it’s important to remember it. But it’s not enough to remember, you have to do something about it.”

Goldi Steiner, co-chair of Canadians for Israel’s Legal Rights, also spoke at the event and echoed Dayan’s call to institute an official national holiday commemorating the San Remo Conference.

Dr. is a senior research associate at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and is an academic expert on the Israeli Arab population.

He served for 25 years in IDF Military Intelligence, where he specialized in Islamic groups, the political discourse of Arab countries, the Arabic press and mass media, and the Syrian domestic arena. Dr. Kedar is an expert on the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups.

Dr. Kedar drew worldwide attention with a June 2008 al-Jazeera interview in which he challenged the moderator’s assertion that “You cannot erase Jerusalem from the Quran,” by pointing out that Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Quran.

JERUSALEM: The Eternal Capital of Israel and The Holy Temple for All Time with Rabbi Eliezar Breitowitz

Maimonides/Rambam, Hilchos Bais Habechira, Chapter 1
It is a positive commandment to construct a House for God, prepared for sacrifices to be offered within. We must celebrate there three times a year, as it states: “And you shall make Me a sanctuary.” The sanctuary constructed by Moses is already described in the Torah. It was only temporary, as it states: “For at present, you have not come unto the resting place and the inheritance.”

After [the Jews] entered The Land of Israel, they erected the Sanctuary in Gilgal during the fourteen years in which they conquered and divided the land. From there, they came to Shiloh, built a house of stone, and spread the curtains of the Sanctuary over it. It did not have a roof. The sanctuary of Shiloh stood for 369 years. When Eli died, it was destroyed. Afterwards they came to Nov and built a sanctuary. When Samuel died, it was destroyed. And they came to Givon and built a sanctuary. From Givon, they came to the eternal structure in Jerusalem. The days the sanctuary stood in Nov and Givon were 57 years.

Once the Temple was built in Jerusalem, it became forbidden to build a sanctuary for God or to offer sacrifices in any other place. There is no Sanctuary for all generations except in Jerusalem and specifically, on Mt. Moriah, as it states: “And David declared: This is the House of the Lord God, and this is the altar for the burnt offerings of Israel.” and it states furthermore “This is My resting place forever.”

Are Jews Owners or Occupiers of Israel? – League of Nations – Mandate for Palestine

In 1922 the world restored the Jewish People to their homeland via a remarkable document from the League of Nations called The Mandate for Palestine. This instrument of International Law was the ultimate expression of the 1917 Balfour Declaration and the San Remo Conference of 1920.

Today, The Mandate for Palestine gives us a strong, but little-understood foundation upon which to build a powerful and secular moral counter-narrative to the devastating “occupation” propaganda. In this video, Israel Truth Week founder Mark Vandermaas shows us how to use The Mandate and the world’s failure to honour its provisions as a unique counter-propaganda weapon. Although The Mandate is a secular document, Mark notes that believers will be able to clearly see God’s fingerprints on its pages.

The Mandate and accompanying Note re: Trans-Jordan are crystal clear in the world’s promises to Jews:

1. The world declared that Palestine was to be the “reconstituted national home” of the Jewish People in recognition of the Jews “historical connection” with the land. The phrase “national home” or “Jewish national home” appears in the nine page document no fewer than five times.

2. The world recognized the “Zionist organization” as the agency to aid in “the establishment of the Jewish national home.”

3. The world agreed to “facilitate Jewish immigration” and to “encourage… close settlement by Jews on the land.”

4. The world recognized the borders of the Jewish state as being all land west of the Jordan River, including Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.

5. The world created the original two-state solution when Mandatory Power Great Britain exercised its right under Article 25 to divide Jewish Palestine into two parts in order to create yet another Arab state called Trans-Jordan east of the Jordan River.

What does all this mean? It means that enemies of Israel and their enablers are trying to divide our land again via a new two-state solution instead of honouring the original solution. It means that the mere existence of this document proves that allegations of stolen land are patently false. It means that countless Jews needlessly died because Britain illegally kept Jews out of Palestine before and during the Holocaust. Today, it means that Jews should remind the world of its promises.

Mark Vandermaas has personally trained nearly 500 Zionists on how to use The Mandate for Palestine against the false “occupation” narrative that underlies nearly all of the vicious anti-Israel sentiment of today. Israel’s land title deed from the world

In 1922 the world restored the Jewish People to their homeland via a remarkable document from the League of Nations called The Mandate for Palestine. This instrument of International Law was the ultimate expression of the 1917 Balfour Declaration and the San Remo Conference of 1920.

Today, The Mandate for Palestine gives us a strong, but little-understood foundation upon which to build a powerful and secular moral counter-narrative to the devastating “occupation” propaganda. In this video, Israel Truth Week founder Mark Vandermaas shows us how to use The Mandate and the world’s failure to honour its provisions as a unique counter-propaganda weapon. Although The Mandate is a secular document, Mark notes that believers will be able to clearly see God’s fingerprints on its pages.

The Mandate and accompanying Note re: Trans-Jordan are crystal clear in the world’s promises to Jews:

1. The world declared that Palestine was to be the “reconstituted national home” of the Jewish People in recognition of the Jews “historical connection” with the land. The phrase “national home” or “Jewish national home” appears in the nine page document no fewer than five times.

2. The world recognized the “Zionist organization” as the agency to aid in “the establishment of the Jewish national home.”

3. The world agreed to “facilitate Jewish immigration” and to “encourage… close settlement by Jews on the land.”

4. The world recognized the borders of the Jewish state as being all land west of the Jordan River, including Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.
