JERUSALEM: The Eternal Capital of Israel and The Holy Temple for All Time with Rabbi Eliezar Breitowitz

Maimonides/Rambam, Hilchos Bais Habechira, Chapter 1
It is a positive commandment to construct a House for God, prepared for sacrifices to be offered within. We must celebrate there three times a year, as it states: "And you shall make Me a sanctuary." The sanctuary constructed by Moses is already described in the Torah. It was only temporary, as it states: "For at present, you have not come unto the resting place and the inheritance."

After [the Jews] entered The Land of Israel, they erected the Sanctuary in Gilgal during the fourteen years in which they conquered and divided the land. From there, they came to Shiloh, built a house of stone, and spread the curtains of the Sanctuary over it. It did not have a roof. The sanctuary of Shiloh stood for 369 years. When Eli died, it was destroyed. Afterwards they came to Nov and built a sanctuary. When Samuel died, it was destroyed. And they came to Givon and built a sanctuary. From Givon, they came to the eternal structure in Jerusalem. The days the sanctuary stood in Nov and Givon were 57 years.

Once the Temple was built in Jerusalem, it became forbidden to build a sanctuary for God or to offer sacrifices in any other place. There is no Sanctuary for all generations except in Jerusalem and specifically, on Mt. Moriah, as it states: "And David declared: This is the House of the Lord God, and this is the altar for the burnt offerings of Israel.” and it states furthermore "This is My resting place forever."

JEWS FOR JUDAISM is an outreach organization whose primary goal is to win back to Judaism those Jews who have been influenced by the following six threats to Jewish survival that are devastating the global Jewish community.

1. Hebrew-Christian missionaries convert thousands of Jews worldwide every year

1. At this time of year the temptation for we Jews to join our fellow human beings in their holiday celebrations is very great. “Peace on earth, good will toward men.” The lights, the carols, the gift giving. Many Jews just don’t want to feel excluded. And to the extent that Christmas has become so secularized and commercialized, perhaps its observance is not a religious one at all?

2. May we as Jews join in Christian observances? There are a range of issues here. May a Jew attend a Church service? May he have a Christmas tree? May he give gifts to his Christian co-workers and employees?

3. Jewish law has well-articulated positions on these issues, but rather than jumping ahead to legal rulings, I would like to put the issues in a conceptual framework.

4. All the dilemmas can be reduced – I believe – to a single issue: Are the various religions exclusive or are they compatible with one another? To illustrate: If I wanted to go to New York, there are many ways to get there. I could drive, I could take the train, or I could fly. For each of these alternatives there are sub-alternatives. Let’s say I decide to drive. I could go with the NY Thruway or by some other highway. Are religions similar? Are they just different ways of getting to the same end? Or do they lead to different destinations?

5. Rabbi Yosef Albo, Spanish Jewish philosopher (1380-1444) discussed this issue in his classic Sefer HaIkkarim, or Book of Fundamental Principles. He contends that, in a very theoretical sense, it would be possible for there to be several true religions with different rituals and practices all leading to the same objectives. Different societies, living in different settings, may need to be conditioned to moral and spiritual perfection in different ways. This would be analogous to people of different ages and different sized having different nutritional needs.

6. The Torah itself makes distinctions between the Jewish people and B’nai Noach, for example.

7. But, argues the Sefer HaIkkarim, it would be inconceivable that there could be different theological systems that could all be true. That would be analogous to opposing systems of mathematics where, in one, 2+2=4, and, in the other 2+2=5!

8. When you study classic works of medieval Jewish philosophy, such as the Moreh Nevuchim of the Rambam, it is interesting to note that, on fundamental theological issues, there is much common ground between Judaism and Islam. Much less so between Judaism and Christianity.

9. There are many points of disagreement between Judaism and Christianity, but I believe that there are at least five theological differences which are IRRECONCILABLE:

A. DEFINITION OF G-D. Judaism believes in pure monotheism and that G-d is removed from any physical body or form. Christianity accepts the concept of the Trinity – that the godhead is divided into three distinct personalities, one of which became incarnate in the body of Jesus.

B. FREE WILL VS. ORIGINAL SIN. Judaism believes that every human being has the potential to be as righteous as Moses or as wicked as the worst Biblical villains. Christianity believes that every man is tainted by Original Sin and can only be justified in G-d’s eyes through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

C. LAW VS. FAITH. Judaism believes that the Law/Torah is the royal road to perfection and justification in the eyes of G-d. Christianity takes the position that man cannot be justified through observance of the law, only through faith and the acceptance of Jesus. (See Roman 3, 7, and 10; Galatians 2.)

D. REDEFINITION OF THE MESSIANIC ROLE. Judaism believes that the role of the Messiah is to deliver the Jewish people from exile and oppression. By this definition, the Messianic claim of Jesus is impossible. Christianity, by redefining the role of the Messiah as liberator from the burden of sin, makes the Messianic claim of Jesus possible.

E. DEFINITION OF THE CHOSEN PEOPLE. Judaism believes in the biological community of the descendants of Abraham. Christianity sees itself as the “New Israel” – as a faith community of those who accept Jesus.

10. There are several Biblical commandments that have relevance to any discussion of Jews’ participation in Christian celebrations:

11. Leviticus 3:4 – You shall not turn to the worthless idols.

12. Leviticus 20:23 – You shall not go in the ways of the nations.

Why the need for Jews for Judaism to provide this Israel Advocacy programming?

Today, young Jews worldwide are being coerced, threatened and manipulated into abandoning their claim to Israel and Jerusalem.

Tragically, more than ever they are succumbing to these challenges.

Confronted virulent anti-Israel activists with unscrupulous agendas their very freedom to make informed choices about Israel is being compromised.

Anti-Semitism is on the rise and universities are flooded with vile anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) propaganda that inhibits and frightens many young Jewish students from standing up for Israel and Judaism.

Here is a scenario of what can transpire:

The Levin family calls Jews for Judaism because of their daughter Rachel.
She is feeling pressured to marry a Muslim man and accept his faith.
Rachel originally met Ahmed at a Pro-Palestinian rally on her university campus.
She was greatly impressed by the Palestinians’ case against Israel.
Ahmed is having great influence on her attitudes to Judaism, Israel and even her family.
She is questioning her Judaism and developing strong anti-Israel sentiments

This is not an isolated example.

Led by the BDS movement on our campuses – where tomorrow’s leaders are in training — Jew- hatred is gaining momentum. The BDS movement has hijacked the hearts and minds of socially conscious Jewish youth.

Disguised by the paper-thin mask of anti-Zionism, the stated goal of the BDS is the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state. Sadly, young Jewish adults on campus are poorly prepared and very intimidated to respond to these promoters of hate and anti-Judaism.

To inspire Jews to be confident and knowledgeable in defence of Israel and Jerusalem, and to help Jews not to be intimidated by the growing, vicious BDS movement, Jews for Judaism is very proud to be inaugurating our exciting new 2018 two-part program: The Jewish Connection to JERUSALEM.

We plan to video-record and upload these programs for worldwide exposure on Jews for Judaism’s YouTube channel, where we have been averaging 3,500 views every day.

Israel is one of the most contentious issues in the world today. A magnet to Jews, Christians and Muslims – the land that is ground zero of the Bible provokes tremendous passion everywhere. Rabbi Breitowitz explores the Biblical and Rabbinic perspectives dealing with the meaning and importance of the Land of Israel and the relationship of the Jewish people to it. With this foundation we can consider how current tensions in the Middle East may unfold and what we might look forward to in the future.

Before we can try to understand the roots of the conflict facing Israel and the Jewish people in the Middle East, we must appreciate what the Torah and the Bible says about the Jews and their connection to the Land of Israel. Topics such as 1967 Six-Day War, BDS, Fatah, GAZA, Hamas, Hezbollah, IDF, Intifada, Israel Apartheid Week, IDF, Jerusalem, Judaism, Judea & Samaria, Jerusalem, Temple Mount, Torah, West Bank and Zionism cannot be appreciated without the context of the Torah’s perspective on Israel.

Why has JEWS FOR JUDAISM produced THE JEWISH CONNECTION TO ISRAEL?
Today, Jews worldwide are being coerced, threatened and manipulated into abandoning their claim to Israel.

Tragically, more than ever they are succumbing to these challenges. Confronted virulent anti-Israel activists with unscrupulous agendas their very freedom to make informed choices about Israel is being compromised.

Anti-Semitism is on the rise and universities are flooded with vile anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) propaganda that inhibits and frightens many young Jewish students from standing up for Israel and Judaism.

The tragic result — countless young Jews are abandoning any commitment to Israel… and in some cases, even their connection to the Jewish faith.

Here is a common scenario of what can transpire: The Levin family calls Jews for Judaism because of their daughter Rachel. She is feeling pressured to marry a Muslim man and accept his faith. Rachel originally met Ahmed at a Pro-Palestinian rally on her university campus. She was greatly impressed by the Palestinians’ case against Israel. Ahmed is having great influence on her attitudes to Judaism, Israel and even her family. She is questioning her Judaism and developing strong anti-Israel sentiments.

This is not an isolated example. Led by the BDS movement on our campuses – where tomorrow’s leaders are in training — Jew-hatred is gaining momentum. The BDS movement has hijacked the hearts and minds of socially conscious Jewish youth.

Disguised by the paper-thin mask of anti-Zionism, the stated goal of the BDS is the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state. Sadly, young Jewish adults on campus are poorly prepared and very intimidated to respond to these promoters of hate and anti-Judaism.

This eye-opening and empowering presentation will analyze the opposing claims of Israelis and Palestinians to the land of Israel. A central aim of this program will be to encourage participants to uncover all the facts, see both sides of this complicated issue, and evaluate the strength of the competing arguments. Based upon this rigorous analysis, you will have a more informed point of view and be able to more effectively present it to others.

Part #2, June 29th – ISRAEL/PALESTINE: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS – A critical and historical analysis, examining indigenous, legal and moral claims for Israel being the permanent state of the Jews.

We plan to video-record and upload these programs for worldwide exposure on Jews for Judaism’s YouTube channel, where we have been averaging 2,000 views every day.
