MISSIONARIES: Reporting from the Front Lines was presented by Mark Powers in July 10, 2001 and is Part 2 of the four-part “Meeting Today’s Challenges to Jewish Survival”.
Presenter Mark Powers who was Executive Director of Jews for Judaism, Baltimore in 2001, reported on the growth of the worldwide Christian missionary crusade targeting Jews at that time. [The problem is much worse in 2018]. “Hebrew Christian” [Messianic Jewish or Jews for Jesus] congregations have proliferated in North America over the past 40 years, from about 20 to over 600. Aside from these congregations, over 500 Christian missionary outreach organizations have their sights set specifically on Jews. The technology of deceptively formatting Christianity to appear Jewish has been aggressively exported worldwide with over 100 of these congregations now operating in Israel. Powers had previously addressed a meeting of over 40 Jewish communities in the Former Soviet Union and revealed that over 100 Hebrew Christian congregations are meeting in the Ukraine alone, with between 75 and 150 in the rest of the FSU.
Powers finally challenged the audience to become part of the solution to the missionary problem targeting Jews. He noted that many Jews who turned to Christianity reported that they never found the Jewish community to be warm and embracing [like the evangelical Christians are]. “It is up to each and every one of us”, Powers stated, “to ensure that our communities are places where all Jews feel welcome and at home, because if we don’t do it, the missionaries will.”
