What Can We Learn from this Controversial False Messiah? With Rabbi Michael Skobac

In 1648, Shabbtai Tzvi, a charismatic mystic, proclaimed himself to be the Messiah and attracted a huge worldwide following of Jewish people. In 1666 he was thrown into prison and given the choice to either convert to Islam or die.

He donned the turban and embraced Islam.

We’ll discuss his stormy life, what became of his movement after his apostasy and implications for Judaism.
