BLOOD MOONS AND ECLIPSES: What Does Judaism Say – Rabbi Michael Skobac – Jews for Judaism
Jesus’ failure to fulfill any of the actual Messianic prophesies of the Bible led Christians to develop the doctrine of the Second Coming. This is the belief that Jesus will ultimately fulfill the Messianic program when he returns. It is important to realize that this doctrine clearly admits that he didn’t fulfill these prophesies, such as reigning over a world of universal peace and knowledge of God. Even though the Christian scriptures claim that Jesus would return quickly during the first century, that obviously did not take place. In order to bolster the hopes of the faithful, Christians have sought various signs to indicate his imminent return.
Recently, there was a tremendous amount of excitement in the Christian world concerning the unusual appearance of four total lunar eclipses, often referred to as blood moons. This video discusses how this phenomenon was seen as a heavenly sign indicating that Jesus would soon return by evangelists such as John Hagee. Of course the claims never panned out, as this series of eclipses took place almost eight years ago.
After explaining the fallacies behind this prediction, we explore a Jewish perspective on lunar and solar eclipses and what they might signify.
