Session #11 of a 12-part lecture series entitled the “Counter-Missionary Survival Seminar”, which responds to the claim by Christian missionaries that Jesus is the Jewish messiah. In this session, Rabbi Skobac goes through the 2,000 year history of Christian anti-Judaism or Jew-Hatred from the inception of Christianity up until the present day. Rabbi Skobac traces the history of anti-Semitism using the New Testament, Church writings and many other sources.
While claiming to be a religion of love, Christian animosity toward Jews and Judaism has been called ‘History’s Longest Hatred’. It wasn’t until the 20th century that numerous Christian scholars and leaders began to acknowledge this serious blemish on the Church. This lecture examines the roots of anti-Judaism in the New Testament and traces its impact through the Crusades, Inquisition, Holocaust and contemporary anti-Semitism.

Today 1,000 Christian missionary groups spend over $300 million annually, targeting Jews for conversion worldwide. In recent years, they’ve converted over 500,000 Jews. In an effort to win Jews, many of these organizations camouflage themselves to appear Jewish in order to lessen resistance by Jews to convert to Christianity. They may call their clergy “rabbis” and refer to their churches as “messianic synagogues.”
Adherents in this movement may refer themselves as Jews for Jesus, Hebrew Christians, Messianic Jews, or Messianic Jewish Christians and present Christianity in the guise of Judaism to attract potential Jewish converts. They often celebrate Jewish holidays with a Christian spin, hold Shabbat services on Friday or Saturday and wear Jewish skullcaps and prayer shawls to create the impression that a Jew can become a Christian and still maintain their Jewish identity. The Shabbat candle lighting, Hamotzei and Kiddush make unaffiliated Jews feel very welcome.
These missionaries operate widely over the Internet, through TV and radio programs, run large public events, send their field workers to distribute missionary literature and visit people at their homes and work places.
