YOM KIPPUR: The Happiest Day of the Year – with Rabbi Michael Skobac of Jews for Judaism. Because Yom Kippur is a day of fasting, we don’t eat or drink for 25 hours, many people mistakenly assume that the mood of the day is sad and mournful. In fact, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is a supremely joyous and uplifting day. This lecture explores some of the reasons for this positive view of Yom Kippur and why many people who understand this end the fast with joyous dancing. The fasting on Yom Kippur has no association with mourning, and the presentation seeks to understand the true nature for not eating on this holy day.
